When I go out for lunch, I usually crave a giant salad or a gigantic wrap. It's been this way for years and I have Garden City Bistro to blame. I've been eating at this Garden City hotspot since I was a bratty tween who thought I knew it all. Bistro, as it is lovingly called by Gardencitians, is the hub of all things good about lunch in our village. If you live or even just work here, chances are you've been to Bistro more than once. If you haven't: run, don't walk.
Bistro has been serving us fresh, wholesome food for 13 years now. Staples like the Chicken La La salad, with grilled chicken, goat cheese, walnuts and cranberries on a bed of field greens, are tried and true classics that keep us hankering for more. I can say with confidence that I've eaten my way through the menu at least one time, and although I have my favorites, I've never been disappointed.
On a rare Tuesday off from work, my friend Julia and I decided to grab a couple of paninis and catch up. Like me, Julia is a Bistro loyalist and knows her way around the menu. We used the usual long line to debate what we would get and finally decided on the Prosciutto Panini piled high with fresh sliced prosciutto and mozzarella and the Fried Eggplant Panini complete with eggplant, Provolone and roasted red pepper pesto. As you probably guessed, we ate every last bite.
Bistro truly has something for everyone at a price that everyone will love. My go to's? Their Jackie Wrap (unfortunately not named after me) with grilled chicken, mozzarella, and roasted red peppers has had my interest for a long time. I also enjoy their Chicken Milanese salad: chicken cutlet on a bed of baby arugula with mozzarella and red peppers. If I'm feeling adventurous, I'll use their build your own salad option and get creative. And since they have specials, you'll never get bored. Grab a panini, wrap, or salad for a delectable meal under $12.
The next time you're looking for a new lunch spot, or want to go back to an old favorite, head to Garden City Bistro. I promise you'll be hungry for more.
